Why we acquired Scout AI

AI agents are only as valuable as their data. Point the smartest model in the world at a sales team's tech stack, and if the data underneath is stale, fragmented, or just wrong, the agent will confidently do the wrong thing. We've watched it happen across the industry, and we've felt it inside our own walls.
So I'm glad to share that Orum has acquired Scout AI. Going forward it's Scout by Orum, a data agent that combines your CRM and third-party data sources with Orum's intelligence from over a billion outbound sales calls, so sales teams reliably have the right phone number to connect with their prospects quickly.
Where the data breaks down
Sales teams aren't short on data providers. They're short on data they can trust, and it breaks down in two places.
First, the phone data itself is unreliable. A mobile number comes with no signal for whether it's still any good, so reps burn dials on numbers that are stale, reassigned, or simply wrong. And every wasted dial is time a rep doesn't spend talking to a buyer.
Second, the data is disconnected. Providers don't talk to each other, and none of them talk to the CRM, so someone (usually RevOps) reconciles it all by hand, and reps still end up wrangling records before every call.
Buying more data was never going to fix this, and neither was bolting on one more enrichment feature. The missing piece wasn't volume. It was judgment: something that works from data a team can actually trust, and that decides on its own when to enrich, which source to believe, and what to write back.
How Scout works
Scout sits between your data providers and your CRM. When you need to reach someone, it doesn't pull a single number and hope. It looks across the providers you already use and Orum's own network signal, and it ranks every candidate number by how likely it is to reach that specific person.
That ranking is the heart of it. Scout sets aside the numbers that waste dials. It identifies numbers like landlines, toll-free lines, anything that reads as disconnected or invalid, and it deprioritizes them. Then, it scores what's left on the signals that actually predict a connect: whether that kind of number has a track record of reaching a live person, what type of line it is, whether it's still valid, and how confidently it maps to the individual you're trying to reach, not just the account. Your rep gets the best number first. If it doesn't land, Scout already knows the next one in line.
What sharpens that ranking is Orum's own network. We've powered more than a billion sales calls, and the patterns in that activity are the most comprehensive record of real-world number quality anywhere in our industry. They tell Scout what separates a number that reaches a live person from one that doesn't:
- How often a given kind of number actually reaches a live person.
- Whether a line tends to route to a gatekeeper, a screener, or a dead end.
- Whether a number is still active, or long since gone quiet.
That intelligence is Orum's own, built from the scale of activity across our network. It's why Scout's ranking keeps getting sharper over time, and why a new entrant can't recreate it from scratch.
The agents are what make this hands-off. Scout doesn't enrich blindly. It checks the numbers you already have before it reaches for new ones, decides when a record is actually worth refreshing, chooses which source to trust, and syncs the result back. Your team isn't babysitting a data stack. The stack looks after itself.
And when Scout settles on the right number, it writes that number back into the tools your reps already work in. The improvement is yours to keep. It lives in your CRM, not locked inside another vendor's platform, waiting to evaporate the day you stop paying for it.
What this means for your team
The whole point is more live conversations. When reps work from the right number for the right person, they reach a real human more often — and for a Revenue Leader, connect rate is the clearest signal that the phone is working. The most direct way to move that number is to reach the person you meant to reach instead of a wrong or dead one, every time. That's the lever Scout pulls.
At the same time, your reps spend less of the day managing data and more of it selling. Scout finds, scores, and syncs the right number in the background, so a rep can pick up the phone and get straight to the conversation. That's what Orum has always been about: getting reps into more real conversations. And Scout makes sure those conversations start with the right person on the line.
Thank you, Scout team
None of this happens without the team behind Scout. Christian Arredondo and his team built something impressive, and I'm grateful they're trusting Orum to carry it forward. We're building this one together.
